Frequently Asked Questions
-
I’m not a healthcare provider, is this course still useful for me?
Yes! While the course was primarily designed for healthcare providers, we believe it’s important that everyone understands about the benefits and risks of genetic screening. The course will give you an insight into what your DNA can tell you and help you to make a more informed decision about which provider to go with to have your DNA screened, should you want it.
-
Do I get a certificate at the end of the course?
Yes! After successfully completing all classes and passing all quizzes, you will receive a certificate from us.
-
What level is this course pitched at?
This course assumes no prior knowledge. It is an introductory course, meaning we touch a lot of material, and give an overview. We hope that there is something useful for everyone - please see the syllabus in more detail.
-
Will this course teach me how to interpret genetic analysis reports?
The goal of this course is to help people understand the mechanisms that underpin genetic screening and analysis, to help when deciding which test to use and to help when it comes to knowing what to do with the results.
-
Why does Cambridge Precision Medicine advocate so much for Whole Genome Sequencing versus just looking at a few markers?
In the classes, we explain the benefits of using different tools to interpret DNA. It’s true that we do prefer Whole Genome Screening, because it gives us more information from which to draw useful conclusions. In the course, we go through the various different technologies and highlight the pros and cons of each one.
-
Do you recommend any further reading?
Yes, as part of the course you will have access to a curated list of recommended scientific papers that we think use best practice.
-
How did you put this together during a worldwide pandemic?
Our offices are located in the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and have not been accessible to us during the pandemic. As we wanted to make this course available to you, all classes were filmed off-site. This means that some of the audio-visuals are not as consistent as we would ideally like although the content is not affected.
-
What currencies do you accept for course payment?
We accept payment in British Sterling, Euro and US Dollar. For payment in Euro and US Dollar, you will be taken to an external payment page and then re-directed back to this website.
